The opening ceremony of the 10th International Uşak Short Film Festival, hosted by Uşak University and organised by the Uşak University Faculty of Communication Communication Community under the honorary presidency of Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş, was held at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Congress and Culture Center. The festival will be held between December 12 and 16, 2023, this year.

Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Kenan Taş and Prof. Dr. Lütfi Özav, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Murat Sezgin, Secretary General Assoc. Dr. Sinan Gürcüoğlu, deans of faculties, directors of colleges, guests, academic and administrative staff, and students attended the opening ceremony.

In his speech at the opening of the festival, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Taş said, "As Uşak University, we produce science and provide education in all international fields. We rank higher in international rankings every year. As a university, our only duty is not to produce science. As a university, it is also one of our duties to contribute to culture, art, and the development of the city. As Uşak University, we make great contributions to the brand value of our university and our city with the international culture and art activities we carry out. The International Uşak Short Film Festival is the brand value of Uşak. Your work is very valuable for our university, our city, and the cinema industry. Therefore, I congratulate those who contributed."

Festival President and Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Murat Sezgin, gave information about the festival in his speech. Stating that a total of 3565 films from 119 countries applied to the 10th International Uşak Short Film Festival this year, Prof. Dr. Sezgin said: "The most applications to the festival this year were from Iran, the USA, India, and Spain. Together with special screenings, a total of 123 films from 36 countries will meet the audience. The premieres of 48 films, 2 of which are from the world, 9 from Asia, and 37 from Turkey, will be held in Uşak at our university. A total of 25 Winged Seahorse Awards will be presented in national student, international, and national competitions. In this context, we are hosting Turkey's most comprehensive cinema competition."

Dutch artist and documentary filmmaker Maartje Alders, who attended the ceremony with a video recording, shared her feelings about the 10th International Uşak Short Film Festival with the participants and thanked everyone who supported the festival.

A total of 25 Winged Seahorse Awards will be given in 25 branches at the Uşak Short Film Festival, where national and international artists will participate. The closing ceremony will be held on December 16 at the Uşak Municipality Atatürk Cultural Centre.
