Technological Developments Affecting History Discussed at Uşak University

Uşak University Atatürk's Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center Directorate, with the contributions of the History Society, held a conference titled “History is Broken by Technology” on April 8, 2025, with Levent Özmen, Lecturer from MEF University International Security and Strategy Center, as the speaker.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Özav, Director of Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution Research and Application Center Prof. Dr. Sadiye Tutsak, faculty deans, college directors, academicians and students attended the conference held in Mustafa Kemal Paşa Amphitheater.

Speaking at the opening of the program, which started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Özav talked about Uşak University and the social contribution activities of the university.

In her speech, Prof. Dr. Sadiye Tutsak, Director of Atatürk's Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center, stated that the event aims to offer an interdisciplinary perspective between history and technology.  Prof. Dr. Tutsak expressed her pleasure that Levent Özmen will share his knowledge and experience with students and emphasized that such academic collaborations are important for social contribution.

Lecturer from MEF University International Security and Strategy Center. Assist. Levent Özmen discussed the effects of technological developments on historical events in his presentation under the theme of “History Breaks with Technology”. In his speech, Özmen emphasized that technology deeply affects not only daily life but also historical transformations. Lecturer Assist. Özmen gave information to the audience in a wide perspective from the technology that the Turks brought with them when they came to Anatolia to the technological developments that changed the fate of the world. Lecturer Levent Özmen explained the contribution of the knowledge and experience of the Turks in the field of weaving to world history with examples.

Lecturer Levent Özmen pointed out that technological developments caused important historical events in terms of European and American history, that the technological tools used by Europeans while sailing to the sea led to the discovery of America, while the technology used in America paved the way to American independence and laid the foundations of the French Revolution.

The event consisted of a collective photo session, Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution Research and Application Center Center Director Prof. Dr. Sadiye Tutsak's lecture. Assist. Levent Özmen and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Özav presented a plaque on behalf of our university.
