TÜBİTAK-Supported Training Program Successfully Completed at Uşak University

The TÜBİTAK-supported training program titled “Basic Cell Culture Applications and Molecular Biology Methods” was held at Uşak University from November 20-22, 2024.

The program, which brought together many students and academics from across Turkey, concluded after an intensive three-day period of theoretical and practical training.

The event, coordinated by Dr. Esra Bilici, a lecturer in the Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program at Uşak University Eşme Vocational School, offered participants comprehensive content ranging from cell culture techniques to advanced applications in molecular biology. The training sessions were conducted by a team of expert academics from various universities, including:

  • Assoc. Prof. Senem Akkoç (Süleyman Demirel University),
  • Asst. Prof. Ümit Yaşar (Ardahan University),
  • Asst. Prof. Gamze SevriEkren Aşıcı (Adnan Menderes University),
  • Asst. Prof. Erten Akbel (Uşak University),
  • Assoc. Prof. Funda Karabağ (Uşak University), and
  • Lecturer İrem Bayar (Selçuk University).

Throughout the course, theoretical knowledge on modern molecular biology methods, such as genetic analysis, PCR, protein purification, and DNA sequencing, was complemented by hands-on laboratory sessions. Participants gained valuable professional experience by working in cell culture environments.

Evaluation tests conducted at the end of the training assessed the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants, and certificates were awarded to those who successfully completed the program. It was noted that the program made a significant contribution to students aiming for careers in advanced scientific fields such as biotechnology, genetics, and molecular biology.

Participants not only gained technical knowledge but also had the opportunity to network with academics and industry professionals, establishing strong communication networks. Emphasis was placed on the role of such events in fostering innovative solutions for the Turkish scientific community and the need to support similar projects in the future.

The training program was deemed a great success by both participants and organizers, reinforcing the belief that it will inspire new discoveries and research within the Turkish scientific community.
