Continuing its efforts to become an accessible university and increasing the number of accessible areas each day, Uşak University has earned an Orange Flag and a Program Medal in the YÖK 2024 “Accessible University Awards.” Additionally, it was nominated for awards in 12 different units.

In the awards announced by the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, Uşak University received the Orange Flag award for spatial accessibility in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Program Medal for the Special Education Teaching Program under the category of Visual Impairment.

Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated that the Accessible University Awards are given to support necessary adaptations, infrastructure, and equipment to facilitate the participation of disabled students in education, as well as in social and cultural activities, and to promote the creation of an accessible ecosystem in universities. He added, “We are also pleased with the efforts by our higher education institutions to ensure the full, active, and equal participation of disabled individuals in higher education.”

A Flag and a Medal to Uşak University

Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş emphasized their commitment to social equality and accessibility, and their work towards being an “accessible” university, in his statement:

“As Uşak University, our Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences received the 'Orange Flag' award for spatial accessibility, and our Special Education Teaching Program earned the 'Program Medal' for Visual Impairment. This year, Uşak University received the Program Medal for the first time, setting new goals for other programs within the faculties towards the 'Accessible University' vision. Additionally, nine units, including the Central Student Cafeteria Building, Banaz Vocational School Building, Rectorate Building, Şehit Ömer Halis Demir Sports Center Building, Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty-Health Sciences Faculty Building, Sports Sciences Faculty-Agriculture Faculty Building, Fine Arts Faculty-Graduate Education Institute, Bir Eylül Campus, and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Congress and Culture Center, were nominated for the Orange Flag accessibility award for spatial accessibility. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was nominated for the Green Flag award for accessibility in education, and Bir Eylül Campus and the Faculty of Islamic Sciences were nominated for the Blue Flag award for socio-cultural accessibility.
